In the summer of 2006, ZANMI SASYE—PARTNERS WITH SASSIER and the Pyram Farmers' Cooperative launched a program to improve farming techniques, reduce deforestation, provide watershed protection through terracing and arboriculture, and promote the gardening of vegetables for sale locally and in Jeremie's produce market. This project includes a tree nursery with more than 3,500 seedlings, and will create over 3,000 linear meters of hillside terracing in the area.
